Yang iron leaf is a perennial herb belonging to the genus Sour Mould, family Polygonaceae.

Yangtie leaves are produced in northeast, north China, northwest, Shandong, Henan, Hunan, Hubei, Sichuan and Tibet. Foreign distribution in Gaojia Haiga, Kazakhstan, Russia, Mongolia and Europe.

The roots contain tannins which can be used to extract tannins. The roots are bitter, sour and cold. It is slightly poisonous.
