Cistanchiakis, the name of the traditional Chinese medicine. It is the fleshy stem of Cistanchis or Cistanches, Cistanche, and Cistanches fasciculata in the family of Ledebouriaceae. It can be harvested in spring and fall. However, it is better to harvest it between March and May, and it will be hollow when it is outdated. Those harvested in spring are usually half-buried in sandy soil and dried in the sun, and are known as sweet rue, light rue or light cistanche. For those harvested in autumn, it is not easy to be dried in the sun because of its high moisture content, so it has to be put into the salt lake for 1~3 years and then taken out to be dried in the sun, which is known as Salt Cistanche, Salt Cistanche or Salt Cistanche. Functions: tonifying the kidney, benefiting the essence, moistening dryness, and sliding the intestines. It can be used to treat impotence in men, infertility in women, hypogonadism, hematochezia, cold pain in the waist and knees, and constipation withered by blood.
