Iron Tree Fruit is the seed of the plant Sutherlandia, family Sutherlandiaceae, which has anti-inflammatory and hemostatic effects. The Chinese name is Iron Tree Fruit, also known as Phoenix Egg.

①Modern Practical Chinese Medicine: "as an astringent, emmenagogue, digestive, cough expectorant. The starch inside the fruit, cure dysentery and eructation."

② "Lu Chuan Materia Medica": "Anti-inflammatory, stop bleeding. Cure phlegm and cough, dysentery, cuts and bruises."

3Chemical composition

The fruit (including seeds) contains 0.086% sudorific glucoside (seeds of the content of about 0.2-0.3%), the new sudorific glucoside A, B, C, D, E, F, G, a large amount of free palmitic acid (the outer testa contains 6.95%), a lot of starch, and also contains β-carotene, cryptoxanthin, corn flavin, and other pigments.

Internally: decoction, 3 to 5 money; or powder. External use: powdered compress.

6Adverse reactions

Adverse reactions and treatment:

"The main poisonous plants in the south": southeastern iron, the seeds and the heart of the tree at the top of the stem are toxic.

Symptoms of poisoning: dizziness, vomiting.

Remedy: wash the stomach with 1:1000-1:5000 potassium permanganate solution or 0.5-4% ellagic acid solution.

Before all the poison is vomited out, the throat can be stimulated with fingers or chicken feathers to induce vomiting.
