Gastric mucosa: The mucosa on the inside of the stomach cavity is the gastric mucosa, which is the innermost layer of the stomach wall. Fresh gastric mucosa is light pink. When the stomach is empty or semi-full, the gastric mucosa forms many wrinkles.
There are about 4 to 5 longitudinal wrinkles in the lesser curvature of the stomach; there are mostly transverse or oblique wrinkles in the greater curvature of the stomach; the wrinkles in other parts are irregular in shape. The gastric mucosa is composed of three layers: epithelium, lamina propria, and muscularis mucosa.
