It is best to store castor seeds in bulk or in packages, and pay attention to moistureproof and shatterproof, because there is lipolytic enzyme in castor seeds, which can quickly promote the decomposition of fat in castor seeds into fatty acids. The decomposition speed is very fast, and the decomposition speed can be doubled as long as it is stored for a few hours. Especially in summer, the decomposition speed is faster. Therefore, the bottom of the pile should be padded with sleepers or linoleum to prevent moisture absorption and mildew. The position of the crib should be selected in a ventilated place. If there is moisture or mildew, it should be wrapped once a month, or it should be moved to the outdoor booth for ventilation. However, it is necessary to avoid direct sunlight at a high temperature above 35 degrees Celsius to prevent oil immersion or rancidity.
Planting castor seeds:
1. Soil preparation
Select a fertile field, turn it over 25 to 30 centimeters before freezing, and apply 2,000 to 2,500 kilograms of organic fertilizer per acre. By the end or middle of March, apply 20 to 25 kilograms of compound fertilizer again, and turn it over 20 centimeters. Never choose a low-lying land to avoid water accumulation and affect growth.
2. Seed treatment
Castor seeds must be treated by accelerating germination before they can be planted, because the outer skin of castor seeds is particularly hard. If it is planted directly in the ground, it will take about half a year before it can sprout, which is particularly time-consuming and uncertain. Put castor seeds in water at about 50 degrees for about 10 hours. Dry the seeds and put them in a room at about 25 degrees until the skin of the seeds becomes soft.
Step 3 sow seeds
It is best to choose April in spring for sowing. Under normal circumstances, the seeds will be planted by manual digging. In each hole, three castor seeds will be planted at a depth of five centimeters, and there will be no repression. Usually, there will be 600 to 800 castor plants per mu in high-fat plots, and if it is dry and thin, it can reach about 1,000 to 1,200 plants per mu. If you are interplanting wheat, then when planting wheat, you should leave room for planting castor.
Step 4 manage
When castor is in seedling stage, don't water it. When it blooms, it is most suitable to start watering. When the branches and buds bloom, topdressing will be carried out once, and 10 to 20 kilograms of effective urea will be used per mu of land. Never rush at the stage of vigorous branch growth. At the same time, in the process of planting, we should also prevent grass shortage and underground pests and increase yield.
