Before sowing cucumber, disinfection and germination acceleration can effectively reduce the pathogenic bacteria carried by the seeds and improve the emergence rate of seedlings, so it has become an indispensable link in the process of cucumber planting, so today we will talk about the treatment of cucumber seeds before sowing in greenhouse.

1. Disinfection of cucumber seeds

Before sowing, the number of seedlings should be determined according to the planting density of cucumber cultivated in greenhouse. Generally, there are about 2,5 ~ 3, seedlings per mu cultivated by single vine and pruning in greenhouse, and then the sowing amount should be determined according to the germination rate of 9%. After selecting seeds, the seeds should be disinfected according to the following operations.

1. Sun-drying seeds

Before sowing, spread the carefully selected seeds on cardboard or wooden board, the thickness of the seeds should not exceed 1cm, and expose them to the sun for 1-2 days on sunny days, turning them once every 2 hours to make them evenly sun-dried. Although airing seems very simple, it is an indispensable process, because most seeds were stored in the freezer or seed bank before. If they are not aired, it is easy for the seeds to emerge unevenly or not because of their low vitality.

2. Soak the seeds in warm soup

Put the sun-dried seeds into warm water at about 55℃, and the amount of water is 5~6 times the volume of the seeds. Stir while soaking seeds, and keep the water temperature at 55℃ for about 15 minutes. When the water temperature is about 25~3℃, start rubbing the seeds, rub off the gelatinous substances on the surface of the seeds, rinse them, and soak the seeds at room temperature for 3~5 hours.

3. Soaking seeds in hot water

For thick seed coat seeds such as cucumber grafted rootstock pumpkin, the seeds can be scalded in hot water at 7℃ which is five times the volume of the seeds. After putting the seeds into hot water, stir them quickly for 3 seconds, then pour in cold water to make the water temperature reach 3℃, and then enter the normal warm soup soaking procedure. For coated seeds, washing is not necessary.

4. Dry heat treatment

The dried cucumber seeds (about 6% water content) can be placed in a 7℃ incubator or oven for 72 hours, which can effectively kill germs and viruses inside and outside the seeds.

5. Disinfection with chemicals

For common local diseases, selective disinfection with chemicals can be carried out. A variety of germs on the surface of seeds: soak seeds in 2%~3% bleaching powder solution for 3 minutes or .2% potassium permanganate solution for 2 minutes. Virus disease: 1% sodium phosphate solution can be used to soak seeds for 2 minutes. Anthracnose, Fusarium wilt, Fusarium wilt and root rot: You can choose 5% carbendazim or 5 times of thiram wettable powder or 5 times of iprodione wettable powder to soak seeds for 2 minutes. Anthracnose and Fusarium wilt: 4% formaldehyde 1 times solution can be used to soak seeds for 2 minutes. Damping-off disease and epidemic disease: 3-fold solution of 97% hymexazol wettable powder and 8-fold solution of 72.2% propamocarb hydrochloride aqueous solution can be selected for seed soaking for 3 minutes.

When disinfecting with chemicals, be sure to strictly control the disinfection time, and rinse it with clear water several times immediately after the disinfection.

2. Accelerating germination of seeds

1. Soaking seeds before accelerating germination

Generally, soaking seeds at room temperature for 6-8 hours is suitable for accelerating germination; It can be reduced to 2~4 hours after soaking seeds in warm soup.

2. Temperature and time for accelerating germination

The suitable temperature for accelerating germination of cucumber is 28℃~3℃, and lower than 15℃ or higher than 4℃ is not conducive to the germination of cucumber seeds. It takes 1~2 days to accelerate germination, and when about 7% of the seeds are exposed (that is, when the radicle is .3~.4㎜), it can stop accelerating germination and sow.

3. Method of accelerating germination

Wrap the slightly dried seeds after soaking in wet gauze, wet cotton cloth or wet towel, put them on a moisture-proof plastic film, and cover them with heat preservation materials. If conditions permit, you can also put the seeds wrapped in wet cloth in a constant temperature box for germination. The temperature in the box is set to 3℃, the relative humidity is kept above 9%, and it is turned once every 4 hours until the seeds are white.

if it is a coated seed, it should be laid flat and its thickness should not exceed 3㎜. In the process of accelerating germination, the seed should be turned once every 4~5 hours for air exchange and water supplement in time.

By soaking, disinfecting and accelerating germination of seeds, the pathogenic bacteria carried by seeds can be cleaned up, and the incidence of diseases in the later period can be reduced. At the same time, the basic work for cultivating strong seedlings has been laid, especially the indoor conditions of cucumber seedlings planted in winter are relatively poor, and more attention should be paid to soaking, disinfecting and accelerating germination of seeds.
