Watermelon is an annual vine with thick stems and branches, thick tendrils, short hair, thick petiole, densely pilose leaves, triangular oval outline, white and green fruit, nearly spherical or oval, juicy meat and smooth skin.
There are many varieties of watermelons cultivated in China, with different exocarp, pulp and seed shapes, among which Xinjiang, Lanzhou, Gansu, Dezhou, Shandong and Dongtai, Jiangsu are the most famous. Its original species may come from Africa, widely cultivated in tropical to temperate regions of the world, and then introduced to China.
