Cassava is a delicious food that we can often eat in our lives. Of course, cassava is not only very delicious, but also has very good health effects. However, cassava contains some toxins. If not handled properly, it will cause us to have symptoms of poisoning. So how to deal with the toxins in cassava? Let’s take a look below.
1. Cassava is mainly divided into two categories. One is bitter cassava, which contains toxins; the other is sweet cassava, which does not contain toxins. Bitter cassava has advantages in processing and feed, and cassava cultivation is mainly focused on feed and processing. Therefore, bitter cassava accounts for the majority of cassava production. Sweet cassava is mainly used for direct consumption. The yield is not large, and the toxin content in this sweet cassava is relatively low, so this kind of sweet cassava generally does not need to remove toxins and can be eaten directly.
2. Cassava for processing does not need to be detoxified in advance, as the toxins will be destroyed during the processing. Cassava used for feed does not need to be detoxified. After being powdered or beaten, and then boiled or fermented, the toxins disappear. And livestock are more tolerant to cassava toxins than humans, and they are not easily poisoned even if the toxins remain. But everyone should pay attention. The content of some cassava heavy toxins is very high. If not handled properly, it will cause us a lot of unnecessary troubles.
3. If fresh cassava is boiled and eaten in cubes, the detoxification method is as follows: peel off the inner skin of the cassava and cut it into sections crosswise. If the cassava is relatively strong, cut it into sections crosswise and then cut it in half lengthwise. Put it in a bucket and add water to soak it. Add as much water as possible. Change the water every 4 hours. After soaking for 48 hours, you can cook it. If conditions permit, put it in a basket and put it in the stream to soak, saving you the trouble of changing the water. In addition, soaking cassava for a long time can also play a very good role in removing toxins, but remember to change the water once a day, otherwise the cassava will deteriorate.
