What is Soda
Soda was invented by Joseph Priestly (1733-1804), a chemist and minister who is better known for his discovery of oxygen (there is also a theory that it was discovered by a Chinese man named Ma He).

Soda is actually just a bottle of aqueous carbon dioxide (with sugar and spices). When carbon dioxide at about 2 to 3 atmospheres is sealed in sugar water, some of the carbon dioxide gas is dissolved in the water, and the carbon dioxide forms carbonic acid in the water, which is what gives soda its pungent flavor.

Soda is an aqueous solution of carbon dioxide gas. When soda is made in a factory, it is pressurized to increase the solubility of the carbon dioxide, so that more carbon dioxide is dissolved in the water.

When you drink soda, the carbon dioxide enters your stomach and intestines with the soda. But the intestines can't absorb the carbon dioxide, and the temperature in the stomach is higher than that of the soda, so the carbon dioxide's solubility decreases and it swarms out of the mouth. This is why you often have to burp after drinking soda. Hiccups" will also feel the nose sore, this is because the carbon dioxide gas meets the nasal mucosa to generate carbonic acid, carbonic acid on the nose to produce a stimulating effect.

When carbon dioxide gas is discharged from the body, it can take away some heat, so drinking soda can quench your thirst. Carbon dioxide has a stimulating effect on the stomach lining, which can speed up the secretion of gastric juice and help digestion.

In the summer heat, people like to drink cold soda. This is only because the temperature of the chilled soda is lower, drink more feel cool and refreshing, but also because the temperature of the chilled soda is low, dissolved in more carbon dioxide. When you open the cap, less carbon dioxide runs off, and you can drink more carbon dioxide into your belly, taking away more heat.

While soda can quench your thirst, you can't drink too much at one time, otherwise it will dilute the gastric juice, reduce the digestive ability of the gastric juice and bactericidal effect, affecting the appetite. Drinking a lot of chilled soda, due to the strong cold stimulation of the stomach and intestines, may cause abdominal pain, and even induce gastroenteritis.

Seeing the white mist:

[edit]

When you open a can of soda, a series of things then happen. The first is that the pressure above the soda drops from the original 2 to 3 atmospheres to the normal one atmosphere in a very short time. In this rapid expansion process produces a huge cooling effect (because the expansion of the gas is work), this effect is called Joule - Thomson effect (Joule - Thomson effect). This cooling effect causes the instantaneous temperature at the mouth of the bottle to reach -30°C, thus causing the water vapor in the vicinity to condense. This is the reason for the fine white mist seen at the mouth of the bottle.

Interesting experiment

[edit]

An interesting experiment that you can do at home is to pour a glass of soda and put a few raisins into the soda, and see the raisins float in the soda. This is because the surface of the raisins provides many nucleation sites, so there will be carbon dioxide forming on the surface. When enough carbon dioxide is formed, its buoyancy will make the raisin float, but once the surface carbon dioxide leaves the raisin, it will sink, so floating and sinking, entirely by the power of carbon dioxide.

Homemade soda

Eating citric acid (or tartaric acid) and baking soda (NaHCO3) dissolved in water, a chemical reaction can take place, producing carbon dioxide gas. Carbon dioxide gas is dissolved in water containing sugar, fruit juice, and other ingredients, and a soda can be made.?

Tools and materials:? Plastic cola bottle, balance, citric acid, baking soda, salt, sugar, fruit juice, cold boiled water.?

Activity process:?

1, take a clean plastic cola bottle, add the appropriate amount of sugar (or salt), fruit juice, 1.5 grams of baking soda, cold water (do not fill the bottle too full) and 1.5 grams of citric acid, and then immediately screw the cap on to prevent the soda from rushing out.?

2. Gently shake the Coke bottle and observe the phenomenon.?

Find that the bottle produces a lot of bubbles. As the cap was screwed tightly, the gas produced could not escape. After about 15 minutes, the homemade soda is ready to drink.?

Instructions and extensions:?

1, summer, drink a bottle of soda, dissolved in the soda in a large number of carbon dioxide gas will then enter the body, but it will not be absorbed by the stomach and intestines, but also not easy to dissolve in water, so it will soon be discharged from the mouth, when people tend to hiccup. Since part of the heat in the body is also brought out by the carbon dioxide at the same time, people will feel very cool.

2, factory-made soda, not through the chemical reaction between substances in the soda bottle to produce carbon dioxide gas, but in a strong pressure, the carbon dioxide gas directly into the solution, which can make carbon dioxide in the solution of the solubility greatly increased.

The Wonderful Use of Soda

No matter what the cause of the rise in body temperature, drink a few sips of soda, can make the body temperature drop, and play a temporary role in reducing fever.

(Fever caused by colds is not suitable)

With soda and flour, steamed buns, buns, or fried twist, scattered children, very soft, crispy, but also with fruit flavor.

Often people say that drinking soda when drunk has the effect of waking up the brain, but in fact, it is not, such as drinking soda when drunk will make the blood pressure rise very quickly, and serious cases may induce cerebral hemorrhage and other sudden illnesses
