It is the whole grass of Mesona chinensis Benth., a plant of Mesona chinensis in Labiatae.
[Morphological characteristics]
Annual herb, height15 ~100 cm. The upper part of the stem is erect, the lower part is prostrate, quadrangular, villous or setose. Leaves opposite; Petiole 2 ~15 mm long, pilose; Leaf blade narrowly ovoid or broadly ovoid, 2 ~ 5m long and 0.8～2.8cm wide, with acute or obtuse apex, wide wedge-shaped or round base, serrated edges and fine bristles or hairs on both sides. The cymbals are flowery and form racemes, which are terminal or born in lateral branches, and the inflorescence is 2 ~10 cm long; Bracts are round or rhombic-ovoid, with caudate spikes; Calyx bell-shaped, 2 ~ 2.5 mm long, densely puberulent, upper lip 3-lobed, middle lobe extra large, apex sharp, lower lip entire, occasionally emarginate; Corolla white or reddish, about 3mm long, puberulent outside, wide upper lip, 4 teeth, high teeth on 2 sides, inconspicuous teeth in the center, and boat-shaped lower lip; Stamens 4, the anterior pair is longer, and the posterior pair has dentate appendages at the base of filaments, which are covered with bristles, and the anthers merge into one chamber; Ovary 4-lobed, style longer, stigma 2-lobed. The whole grass contains Mesona chinensis Benth Polysaccharide (MCPS) with a relative molecular weight of 43,000. glucose, galactose, arabinose, xylose (xy lose), rhamnose, galacturonic acid and xylose are obtained by hydrolysis.
