There are a lot of them, and I've watched a couple of them recently. Personally, I feel that the French and Italian movies on this subject are more subtle than the American ones. There's more of a who-knows-what-the-hell flavor to it.
Taking the French and American versions of Untouchable as an example, after watching it, I felt that the French version is more delicate and has a unique French tenderness. And the American version.

When I watched it anyway, it was a little heavy, a little joyful, a little touching, and the plot was even a little bland.
But they all share the same characteristic of exuding "simplicity".
