Summer and autumn.
The flowering period of canna is generally in summer and autumn. If it is in the north of my country, it is usually from June to October every year. If it is in the south of my country, the flowering period of canna is generally all year round. All can bloom, most commonly blooming from March to December each year. Canna flowers also come in many colors, including yellow, red, white, purple, pink and other colors.
If you want to extend the flowering period of canna, you can remove all the stems and leaves above the ground in November every year, take out the rhizome of canna, and then place it in a cool and ventilated place for 2-3 After a few days, place it in sand at about 5 degrees Celsius.
In this way, in March of the second year, when the temperature warms up, the canna can be replanted to extend its flowering period.
Canna's care
Canna likes a high temperature, high humidity climate and sunny environment, fertile, deep and moist soil, and is intolerant of cold frost, strong wind, infertility and drought. Canna has strong adaptability, extensive management and is easy to cultivate.
After the plants on the ground wither, new ones can appear the following year. It is generally cultivated in the open air, but can also be grown in pots. Although canna can grow well all year round in southern China, when winter comes, all above-ground plants should be cut off and the roots should be covered with soil to survive the winter.
In winter in northern areas, underground stems should be dug out, dried and placed indoors or in a cellar to overwinter. Potted plants can be made of pond mud or vegetable garden soil, with chicken manure added as base fertilizer. It is not necessary to apply thick fertilizer. You need to apply thin fertilizer 1 or 2 times before flowering. Watering should be done from dry to wet, and watering should be done frequently in summer.
The canna propagation method uses the division method. Division can be carried out at any time of the year in South China, but March is the best month. In the north, it should be done after April. When dividing the plants, dig out the underground tubers, cut them, and plant 2 or 3 buds on each piece directly on the ground or in a pot without raising seedlings. Apply enough fertilizer before planting and water and moisturize after planting. After the new seedlings grow, apply thin fertilizer 1 or 2 times to encourage the seedlings to bloom that year.
