The origin of Lapsang Souchong is Tongmuguan Village, Wuyishan City, Fujian Province.
Lapsang Souchong, also known as Lapshan Souchong, belongs to the black tea category. Together with artificial souchong, it is called souchong black tea. In the late 18th century, it was first created in the Tongmu area of ??Chong'an County, Fujian Province (Chong'an was removed from the county and established as a city in 1989 and renamed Wuyishan City). The Zhengshan production area is surrounded by mountains, with high mountains and deep valleys, and a cold climate, with the average annual temperature being only about 18°C. Even if you go there in July and August, you won’t feel any obvious heat.
Characteristics of Lapsang Souchong
Lapsang Souchong is a fully fermented black tea with mild tea properties. Its production process includes picking, withering, rolling, fermentation, re-kneading and smoking. After roasting, reheating, and raw tea, the dried tea strips made are fat and heavy, with a dark color, a long pine smoke aroma, a mellow taste, a rich red soup color, and a thick and bronze leaf base.
Lapsang souchong strips are fat and thick, tightly knotted, round and straight, black in color, with a dry tea aroma with a strong rosin smell and a mellow aroma. Usually after one or two years of storage, the pine smoke aroma will further transform into a dry fruit aroma.
