Cephalotaxus is one of the tropical marine economic fish, which is distributed in tropical waters of Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean. The Red Sea, Japan, Nanyang Islands, the northern part of the South China Sea, Hainan Island, Nansha Islands and the coastal areas of Taiwan Province are distributed.

The spawning grounds are mainly near islands and coral reefs, with transparent water quality, water temperature of 25~30℃ and salinity of 33.86~35.00. The sample line/KLOC-0 was collected from the northern South China Sea in April, 1976.
