The main purpose of Magellan's voyage was to find the Spice Islands in Asia and control the spice trade there. After leaving the Straits of Magellan, he sailed 10 degrees north of his planned course, so that when he crossed the equator, the ship passed by the Moluccas - the Spice Islands - in present-day Indonesia from the northeast, and came to Guam.
It wasn't until Magellan's death, on November 6, that the fleet finally found the Moluccas, which were rich in spices. The crew bought and exchanged spices with everything they could, even taking off their clothes to do so. Soon, the cabin was filled with cloves and nutmeg, cinnamon, pepper, ginger and other various spices.
