I live in France and my husband is French. I observed that they actually ate the same as us. Of course, their tableware will be put more carefully, with a fork on the left and a knife on the right, with a small spoon on it, and appetizers or desserts in small cups. The plate is in the middle. Of course, if they eat in a restaurant or attend a more formal dinner at a friend's house, they will even put napkins for wiping their mouths together, and usually put a large roll of kitchen toilet paper. They don't care about anything when they eat.
Their breakfast is too simple, jam, toast and coffee or hot chocolate (few people drink milk)
Lunch is more formal, except for people who work, of course. Because of the time, 80% don't go home to cook, so they buy a sandwich outside. In small cities or villages, especially on weekends, lunch is more formal. Usually, the first meal is lettuce salad or a bowl of thick soup. Of course, it's better to go back to a friend's house or something. They like to put food in small glasses filled with mayonnaise and diced salmon. The color of ketchup is beautiful, but it tastes really bad. I feel nothing real, just some ketchup and salad dressing, just some sauce seasoning. After eating, I took off my cup and served meat, chicken, duck, beef and so on. They seldom eat mutton. Personally, I think what they do is not as good as what we do at home. They don't use any seasoning, just pepper and salt, and then fry them in the oven or pot. The oil on the skins of chickens and ducks they made hasn't been fried, and they look wet and purulent. After the incision, you can still see blood, especially ducks, which are still raw. It tastes like blood, and I feel disgusting. When they eat, they either drink wine or tap water (in France, they all drink tap water), and there is no drink, even in restaurants. If they don't buy drinks, the waiter will give you a bottle of tap water. After eating meat, it is cheese and sticks. Some people also eat it with butter. If there is soup on the plate, they will wipe the soup with bread until the plate is cleaned. After eating bread, it is dessert. Their desserts are still rich, such as ice cream and cakes, but they usually make their own desserts, and few people go out to buy ready-made ones.
Dinner is similar to lunch, the only difference is that the first course of dinner is basically thick soup, and then it is the same as lunch. Dessert is usually yogurt or fruit.
