Li Hongzhang is a good man.
Li Hongzhang (February 15, 1823-November 7, 191), whose real name was Zhang Tong, whose name was gradually fu, Zi Fu [fú], and whose name was Shao Quan (one works as a little spring), became a famous official in his later years, and his nickname was Worry-Free. He was born in Hefei, Anhui Province, and was a politician, diplomat and military general in China in the late Qing Dynasty. Many people in the world call Li Zhongtang, also known as Mr. Li Er, Li Fuxiang and Li Wenzhong.
Li Hongzhang is one of the main leaders of the Westernization Movement. Together with Zeng Guofan, Zhang Zhidong and Zuo Zongtang, he is called "the four famous ministers of Zhongxing", and Empress Dowager Cixi is regarded as a person who "helped Zhongxing to smooth over the great difficulties" and "helped China and foreign countries to make peace".
at the same time, some people in the west regard it as "three outstanding men in the world". However, because it signed a series of unequal treaties on behalf of the Qing government, coupled with personal corruption, decision-making mistakes and other issues, it also attracted many criticisms.
Family background:
The surname of Li's predecessor was Xu, who moved from Hukou, Jiangxi Province to Hefei in the late Ming Dynasty to avoid chaos. Li Xinzhuang, the ninth ancestor, had no children, and his second son, Shen, was given as an heir by Qi Xu Yingxi in the same village, and his surname was changed to Li.
The Li family worked as a farmer from generation to generation, and it was not until Li Hongzhang's great-grandfather that they became "thrifty and married, with two hectares of land", and they had no chance of fame in the imperial examination. It was not until Li Hongzhang's father, Li Wen 'an, entered the imperial examination in the 18th year of Daoguang (1838) that the Li family "rose from Kejia and became a noble family in Lu County".
