It is mainly distributed in mountainous areas of northwest, north, southwest, northeast, south and east China, and sometimes it is wild in Xinjiang.

Millet stems are stout and erect, with a height of 40- 120cm. Sometimes it has branches, sometimes it doesn't have many moustaches at the top of the node, and there are verrucous basal hairs below the node.
