Who knows what the name typhoon shelter means?
Typhoon shelters are places in Hong Kong where fishing boats can take refuge from typhoons, usually located in bays or harbors, where the passageways connecting them to the sea are mostly blocked by man-made breakwaters, and the boats enter and exit only through narrow passageways.

As the name suggests, typhoon shelters are used by small and medium-sized vessels to protect themselves from strong winds and large waves when typhoons strike. Typhoon shelters are also used for mooring yachts (as is the case with the Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter). Some typhoon shelters are also used for loading and unloading ships.
