Ballet originated in Italy. As early as five hundred years ago, during the Renaissance, Italian aristocrats watched a beautiful dance called "ballet" or "balletti" in the court, which was the prototype of ballet later.
This dance was introduced to France and became the first peak of ballet development. The King of France took the lead in dancing and founded the first dance academy, the Royal Ballet Academy, which established the basic norms of ballet dance movements.
With the development of society, ballet gradually from the court entertaining dance into a ballet with a plot into the theater, performed with the content of the social life of the dance drama.
In the nineteenth century, Romanticism also had a profound impact on the art of ballet. Ballet from the content to the form have undergone fundamental changes. Stories reflecting folk myths and legends, fairies, flower gods, elves and ghosts became the main themes of ballet creation.
Actresses became protagonists, costumes were changed to short skirts, and pointe dancing became a basic element of ballet. This technique of standing on one's toes lifts the dancer's body upward, making it suitable for the expression of a lithe physique as well as for the expression of emotions of pursuit and longing.
Toward the end of the nineteenth century, Tchaikovsky's monumental masterpieces, such as Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, and The Nutcracker, were staged in Russia and in other countries, and the center of the world's ballet art shifted from Paris to Petersburg. Tchaikovsky's music, in particular, brought rich figurative content, dramatic impetus and symphonic development to the music of dance theater. It is not only an exemplary work of ballet, but also a monumental work in the world of music.
