The Torch Festival is a traditional festival of the Yi people.
The Torch Festival is the oldest and most important traditional festival of the Yi people, equivalent to the Spring Festival of the Han people. The Torch Festival is mainly popular in Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan and other Yi areas.
Every year on the 24th day of the sixth lunar month, the Yi people begin to drink alcohol, eat meat, and kill animals to sacrifice their ancestors. People put on new clothes and carry out various activities with national characteristics.
The men competed in bullfights, cockfights, horse racing and wrestling, while the women sang loudly, played mouth strings and played the yueqin. At night, they held torches and wandered around the house; on the third night, groups held torches and traveled around the mountains and fields, ablaze with flames. Then they gathered in one place to light a bonfire, and continued drinking, singing, and dancing until It ended at dawn.
This unique folk culture is famous at home and abroad, and is also known as the "Oriental Carnival".
