The Black Shell Shrimp will not starve to death without algae.
The optimal living temperature for black shell shrimp is 10~30℃, but it can survive extreme temperatures from 5~35℃, and it can even tolerate temperatures lower than 5℃, but the black shell shrimp will stop eating at this temperature. Low temperatures do not affect their survival, but are detrimental to their reproduction. Even hatchling shrimp larvae do not survive easily below 10°C. The water density of blackshell shrimp increases as the water becomes denser. As the density of the water increases, the maximum limiting temperature at which the blackshell shrimp can survive decreases.
Black Shell Shrimp Cultivation Notes
Black Shell Shrimp is quite adaptable, and the green algae in the tank, as well as the water plants are all food for Black Shell Shrimp. Black Shell Shrimp mainly feeds on algae, but its favorite food is frozen bloodworms, so you can choose to feed it appropriately according to the situation.
Light is an essential condition, one can provide energy to the tank water plants, so that the black shell shrimp have grass to eat, and secondly in the case of sunlight, the shrimp will grow faster, to achieve the effect of bursting the tank. It should be noted here that juvenile black shell shrimp prefer light, and adult shrimp favor dark environments. So, on balance, it is more appropriate to plant water plants densely to provide shade.
