Lugu Lake is a plateau fault dissolution trap lake located at the junction of Sichuan and Yunnan. Lugu Lake is located in the southwestern part of Sichuan Province and the northwestern part of Yunnan Province at the junction of the two provinces, with geographic coordinates of 100°45-100°51 E and 27°41-27°45 N. The lake surface elevation is 2689.8-2690.8 m. It is under the jurisdiction of the two provinces***, with Yanyuan County of Sichuan in the eastern part, and Ninglang County of Yunnan in the western part. Lugu Lake is a plateau fault erosion trap lake formed by the new tectonic movement in the middle of the Quaternary Period and external erosion. Lugu Lake is a natural freshwater lake belonging to the Jinsha River system. The lake is slightly north-west and south-east oriented, with a length of 9.5 kilometers from north to south, a width of 5.2 kilometers from east to west, a shoreline of about 44 kilometers, and a Sichuan part of 20 kilometers. The area of the lake is 50.1 square kilometers, of which 31.2 square kilometers are in Sichuan. The catchment area of the lake is 247.6 square kilometers, of which the Sichuan part is 140.6 square kilometers. The maximum water depth of Lugu Lake is 105.3 m, and the lake area with water depth over 50 m accounts for about half of the whole lake area, with an average depth of 40.3 m. The reservoir capacity of the lake is 2.252 billion m3, and the maximum transparency of the lake water reaches 12 m.
