Legend of the origin of Gulangyu Island
1, waves beating drums
Gulangyu Island was originally named "Zai Yuan". There used to be a round rock on the island, which formed a cave under the impact of the waves. Whenever the tide is high, it always sounds like drums, so it is called Gulangyu.
2. Legend of Five Dragons Playing Beads
Gulangyu Island was originally called Wulong Island, because the whole island is shaped like a pearl playing with five dragons, and that pearl is Sunlight Rock. Wulong is the five mountains on the island (Bijia Mountain, Zhaohe Mountain, Camel Mountain (Mother Dragon), Qiwei Mountain (Hero Mountain, Gonglong) and Qiqi Mountain), which extend from the seaside to the center of the island.
Just like five dragons climbing the island from the mouth of Jiulong River, the male dragon catches chickens for the female dragon who lays eggs, and the omelet stone between the two mountains is the dragon egg. Just because officials don't understand Minnan, they mistook Wulong Island for Gulangyu Island.
