1, soaked in water
This method is simple and suitable for all growers. Farmers will soak the chopped garlic cloves in clean water for 48 hours, then take them out and cover them with moist sand or fine soil for 2-3 days. After the garlic roots and buds are exposed, they will be sown, so that seedlings can emerge in 4-6 days after sowing.
2. Low temperature treatment
As mentioned earlier, the suitable temperature for garlic germination is about 15 to 20 degrees, and high temperature will inhibit garlic germination. Therefore, in the high temperature environment, it needs to be treated at low temperature, and breaking the dormancy period of garlic can promote the rapid germination of garlic. Similarly, growers can soak garlic seeds in clear water for 6~ 10 hour, fish them out and pack them in bags.
Put it in a cold kiln for 5~ 10 days, and sow it in time after discovering that the garlic roots and buds are white. Or spread the soaked garlic seeds in a cool and humid place, with a thickness of about 10cm. Pay attention to spraying water with a watering can frequently, and turn it once every 2-3 days, so that the garlic cloves can be wetted evenly to promote garlic germination, and leave it for 10 days, so that the seedling stage can be advanced by 7-10 days.
If the planting area is small, it is also possible to treat it at low temperature in large wells in rural areas, if conditions permit.
3. Growth regulator
For growers with large planting area, it is suggested to use plant growth regulators to promote garlic germination. At room temperature, it is suggested to soak the seeds with 5 mg/L gibberellin solution for 6~8 hours, then rinse them and sow them. Soaking seeds with growth regulators can increase the germination rate of seeds to about 80%.
Field management of garlic;
Top dressing: ① Seedling stage: apply compound fertilizer 15~20kg every 667m2 to supplement the deficiency of base fertilizer. ② Flowering stem elongation period: topdressing compound fertilizer 15~20kg per 667m2 to ensure sufficient nutrients and promote its vigorous growth. ③ Bulking stage of garlic: after the garlic bolt is harvested, the garlic special compound fertilizer 10~5kg should be applied every 667㎡ before the garlic bolt is harvested, so as to ensure rich nutrients and promote garlic swelling.
Watering: ① After garlic is sown, keep the soil full of water and no water, and ensure the emergence of seedlings orderly. ② At seedling stage, irrigate 1~2 times according to soil quality to promote root development, cultivate strong seedlings and enhance cold resistance of seedlings. (3) During the flower bud and scale bud differentiation period, timely watering the green water.
④ During the elongation period of garlic shoots, the management of fertilizer and water should be strengthened, and the shoots should be watered continuously to ensure that they are not dry. Water should be used to promote the shoots and promote the growth of leaves, and watering should be stopped 2 ~ 3 days before the shoots are harvested to increase the toughness, so as to facilitate the harvesting, storage and transportation of garlic shoots. ⑤ During the garlic bulb swelling period, water the garlic bulb after harvest, keep the bulb surface dry, avoid exposure to the sun, and prevent garlic from burning, and stop watering until 5 days before harvest, so as to accelerate the transfer of assimilates from leaves to garlic.
Others: Weeding in time at all growth stages.
