Kumquats are native to the south of China, widely spread in the Yangtze River basin and the provinces and regions south of the Yangtze River, especially the most widely planted in the Guangdong area, with Youxi in Fujian, Rong'an in Guangxi, Suichuan in Jiangxi, and Liuyang in Hunan being the most famous. It is also widely cultivated in South China and the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Kumquat likes sunshine and warm, moist environment, not cold, slightly shade, drought, requires well-drained fertile, loose slightly acidic sandy loam.

Kumquat is 3 meters high, generally not spiny, green branchlets, when sufficient nutrients branching. Leaves lanceolate to long elliptic, 5 to 9 centimeters long, entire, petiole slightly winged. Flowers are small, white, fragrant, 1 to 3 axillary, 5 petals, 20 to 25 stamens, and a 5-celled ovary.

Fruit ellipsoid or obovate, 2.5-3.5 cm long, golden yellow. Flowering April to May, fruiting 11 to February of the following year. In captivity, it blooms three times a year, the first time in March-April and the last time in August-September.
