Many people don't know the origin of "Ghost Festival" in China. In fact, "Ghost Festival" originated from the Buddhist "Orchid Festival". According to legend, the disciple of Sakyamuni, Mulian Zun, lost his parents before he got the Tao, and he missed his mother very much. When it was completed, he used his eyes to see the hell and look for his mother. As a result, he found that his mother had fallen into the hungry ghost road, and the food entrance turned into a raging fire and was miserable. Mu Lian was heartbroken, so he went to the master Sakyamuni to ask for relief. Sakyamuni instructed, because your mother was sinful before her death, she fell into the hungry ghost road after her death, and it is beyond redemption. If you want to get rid of it, you can't do it alone. You must gather all the people's strength to resolve it. So Mulian went through all the hardships, gathered monks and nuns, held a grand ceremony on July 15, crossed the dead in hell, and finally freed his mother from the suffering.
Bonbon is Indian Sanskrit. The meaning of "hanging upside down" is that this festival had nothing to do with Zhongyuan in China, but it happened to be the day when Zhongyuan officials in China's local religion and Taoism pardoned their sins. So the story of "Orchid Club" was merged with Zhongyuan, and many China elements were added, such as the filial piety thought of Confucianism, to form Zhongyuan Ghost Festival, a traditional folk festival in China with educational function.
China's ghost culture has a long history. In primitive society, human beings advocated animism. The Sacrifice Law states: "Anyone born between heaven and earth is doomed. Everything dies, and people die. " Later, the concept of ghost became more and more clearly differentiated from animism, forming a unique culture and forming a huge ghost system, such as hell, ghost king, ten halls of hell and judges, black and white impermanence, cow's head and horse's face, Meng Po and other ghost officials, which were concentrated in folk customs, festivals and ghost stories.
