As of 2018, Huizhou is a prefecture-level city in Guangdong Province, not under the jurisdiction of any city, but under the direct jurisdiction of Guangdong Province.
Huizhou is one of the central cities of the Pearl River Delta, as it is adjacent to Shenzhen and Hong Kong, connected to Heyuan in the north, Shanwei in the east, and Dongguan and Guangzhou in the west.
As of 2018, Huizhou has jurisdiction over Huicheng District, Huiyang District, Huidong County, Boro County, and Longmen County, with two state-level development zones, Zhongkai Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone and Daya Bay Economic and Technological Development Zone.

History of Huizhou:
December 1949 Dongjiang Prefecture was set up and abolished in January 1950, Huizhou County was assigned to the Guangdong East Administrative Region, Boro and Longmen Counties were assigned to the Guangdong Central Administrative Region, and in January 1956, these three counties were attached to the newly established Huizhou Prefecture.
In April 1958, Huizhou Town, Huizhou County, analyzing the town of Huizhou City (county-level), analyzing the eastern part of the county set Huidong County. In November of the same year, Longmen County was incorporated into Zengcheng County, under the Guangzhou Municipality. in November and December, Huizhou City and Huidong County were abolished, and were still assigned to Huiyang County.
In March 1959, Huiyang Prefecture was abolished, Huiyang and Boro counties were transferred to Foshan Prefecture, and in October 1961, Longmen County was restored and transferred to Foshan Prefecture.
In July 1963, Huiyang Prefecture was restored, and Huiyang, Boro and Longmen counties were assigned to Huiyang Prefecture. 1964 Huiyang County was analyzed in October 1964 to set up the town of Huizhou City (at the county level), and in July 1965, Huidong County was restored.
In October 1970, Huiyang Prefecture was renamed Huiyang District, the jurisdiction remains unchanged, Huiyang, Huidong, Boro, Longmen 4 counties and the city of Huizhou is still under it.
In March 1975, Longmen County was transferred to Guangzhou City.
On January 7, 1988, the State Council approved the abolition of Huiyang District, Huizhou, Dongguan, Shanwei, Heyuan 4 prefecture-level cities. Huizhou has jurisdiction over Huicheng District, Huiyang County, Huidong County, Boro County and Longmen County.
In 1992, the State Council approved the establishment of Zhongkai National Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone, and in May 1993, the State Council approved the establishment of Daya Bay Economic and Technological Development Zone, and in 1994, Huiyang was abolished and set up as a city (county-level).
In 2003, Huiyang withdrew from the city and set up a district. Huizhou jurisdiction Huicheng District, Huiyang District, Huidong County, Boro County, Longmen County, with Daya Bay Economic and Technological Development Zone and Zhongkai High-tech Industrial Development Zone, two national development zones.
