Introduction
In the late Eastern Han Dynasty, the world was divided into three parts. Liu Chan, the monarch of Shu, surrendered and was placed under house arrest in Luoyang, the capital of Wei.
Meng Yu, a general of Shu, was determined to save his master and came to Luoyang to plead with Sima Zhao, the prime minister of Wei, to release Liu Zen. Sima Zhao told Meng Yu that Liu Zen was living very happily in Luoyang. Meng Yu didn't believe him and insisted on seeing Liu Zen, but after seeing Liu Zen in person, he realized that Liu Zen was not only playing with things, but also didn't want to go back to Shu.
Meng Yu was sad, but asked Sima Zhao to make sure that Liu Zen could have enough to eat and drink.
Shi Ma Zhao then came up with the idea of weighing Liu Zen to make sure he could eat and drink enough.
And this day happened to be the first day of summer, hence the story of Weighing a Man in the First Summer.
