Dazhou is a prefecture-level city in Sichuan Province, and does not belong to any other city.

Dazhou, known as "Tongzhou" in ancient times, is a prefecture-level city in Sichuan Province, a natural gas energy and chemical base in western China, a transportation hub, a cultural and trade center, and an ecologically livable regional center in the combined area of Sichuan, Chongqing, Hubei, Hubei and Shaanxi. As of 2019, the city has two districts, four counties, and one county-level city under its jurisdiction, with a total area of 16,600 square kilometers. By 2020, the city will be a "double 130" city.

Dazhou City has a high topography in the northeast (Daba Mountain area) and a low topography in the southwest (Basin Hilly area). The highest point is Datuanbao in Jixing Township, Xuanhan County, with an elevation of 2,458.3 meters; the lowest point is Tianguan Village in Wangxi Township, Duxian County, with an elevation of 222 meters. The Daba Mountain lies horizontally in the north of Wanyuan Xuanhan, and the Mingyue Mountain, Tongluo Mountain, and Huaying Mountain lie from north to south, dividing Dazhou City into 3 blocks of mountainous, hilly, and flat dams.

Dazhou City*** has more than 400 species of vertebrates, including more than 60 species of beasts, more than 230 species of birds, 14 species of reptiles, more than 10 species of amphibians and 85 species of fish. There are 52 kinds of national and provincial key protection wildlife.

There are 14 kinds of beasts, 20 kinds of birds, and 1 kind of amphibian (giant salamander, commonly known as baby fish) under national second-class protection; 3 kinds of beasts, 12 kinds of birds, and 2 kinds of reptiles under provincial key protection; and 250 kinds of wild animals with important economic and scientific research value announced by Sichuan Forestry Department.
