Is brown sugar mochi a Sichuan dessert? Can you make it yourself at home?

In Chengdu, there are many streets and alleys where people pushing carts shout "buy brown sugar cake, buy brown sugar cake" every few minutes. This is how they appear on the streets of Chengdu. And if they happen to be hungry, they can buy a bowl to try.

Sichuan street food, brown sugar, can be cooked at home, soft and sweet, so delicious

There is actually another name for brown sugar cake. I don't know if visitors to Chengdu from abroad have any memory of it. In the famous "Jinli" and "KuanNarXiaoLaneZi", there is a kind of food called "SanGao", which is actually the brown sugar cake we mentioned above.

Why is it called "San Bao"? The master threw the split glutinous rice cake into the center of the plate, because the glutinous rice cake hit the plate and shook a little, causing the steel plate next to it to make a 'bang-bang' sound. The sound was as loud as a cannon, and that's how the word "cannon" came about. The three glutinous rice cakes that are thrown out are carried along the slanting bamboo dustpan, and then rolled into the bamboo dustpan filled with sesame and soybean powder below, where they are naturally coated with a layer of powder. At this point, another master puts the rice cakes on a plate and pours brown sugar sauce over them. It's a delicious treat that's as ornamental as it is tasty.

Because of the different locations and names, the price varies, but at 10 yuan a bowl, "sanbao" is not expensive. So is a $5 bowl for us locals at the intersection. It's just that this is the first two years. After I had kids, I made it at home. It's not hard to do. Just three ways. Let's take a look at exactly how to do it.

Material Preparation

Main Ingredients:Soybeans, glutinous rice, brown sugar

Specific Methods

Step 1: Wash the glutinous rice and soak it one night in advance.

Step 2: The next day, put it in a rice cooker or steamer to steam, just like cooking rice. Note that because the glutinous rice has been soaked, did not absorb so much water, cooking rice when the water is almost or less. (I was in a trance, a little more water.)

Step 3: When cooking glutinous rice, choose soybeans. My mother-in-law made it in the old country, some bad need to choose. The ones you buy at the market should be fuller and less bad. (Note that I made it very heavy and am going to save a little for the donkey rolls, so you can reduce.)

Step 4: Choose your soybeans and wash them with water. Note that it needs to be washed quickly, not soaked. The longer you wash them, the easier they are to fry. As soon as the skin is washed, quickly remove it and place it in the skillet.

Step 5: Because the outer skin of the soybean has water, so at first, high heat, then turn to low heat. Fry until light brown in color. At this point it will be full of soy flavor, enjoy under the flavor. When you see a particle explosion you can turn off the fire and let the remaining temperature continue to roast, cool down and put it into the fryer to make soybeans and put it in a plastic bag. (My family powder box is very small, it takes three times to finish.) Sichuan street food, brown sugar, you can cook at home, soft and sweet, so delicious

Step 6: Prepare the brown sugar water, cut the brown sugar into small pieces, add water and put it into a non-stick pan. Stir with a tool over low heat until it turns into a thick sauce. Turn off the heat and pour into a bowl.

Step 7: At this point, the glutinous rice should be steamed. Take it out and press it with a tool to make it stick together. Spoon two tablespoons of soybeans in a bowl, squeeze some dumplings in your hands, put them in the bowl, and roll them around a few times. Let it be covered with soybean flour, or find a slightly larger container, put it into the soup dumplings, shake the container vigorously so that the soybean covers the dumplings, and then pour in the prepared brown sugar sauce. Almost done.

Finished picture: insert a toothpick, you can eat. You are now fried soybean full of flavor, even a bowl of 10 bucks can not compare to outside! Also, if you make it yourself you can steam half a pot and eat it slowly. If you buy a bowl outside, it's just enough to make a hearty meal, and it's better to eat it nice and cool, or make it yourself at home!

Tips:

1. It is recommended to use large pieces of brown sugar, now cut better. If not, go to the supermarket to buy bags of granular substitutes.

2. Make your own soy beans are very fragrant. In addition to frying pan frying, you can also oven bake.

3. If you don't have glutinous rice, you can use glutinous rice flour instead, cooking method is different. If you use glutinous rice flour, add water, mix well, and then put it into a steamer to steam. This has the added benefit of eliminating the time spent soaking the glutinous rice, it just tastes a little different. This one is too delicate, depending on which one you prefer.
