Hairy crabs grow in fresh water. Yangcheng Lake in Suzhou, China, Changdang Lake in Jintan and Qinhu Lake in Taizhou are all rich in hairy crabs. These lakes are all freshwater lakes, so hairy crabs naturally belong to fresh water. Hairy crabs, unlike swimming crabs, belong to sea crabs, so when buying hairy crabs, be sure not to be fooled by sellers or unscrupulous merchants.
Habits of hairy crabs
Natural hairy crabs are generally burrowing or reclusive. When there is enough food, they often live in caves to avoid the enemy. When there is no cave condition, they hide in gravel or grass.
Hairy crabs usually like to live in rivers and lakes with clean water and rich aquatic plants. When they are in the pond, they often hide in the mud at the bottom of the pond. Hairy crabs lie down during the day and come out at night. They settle down when the bait is rich and the environment is suitable. Once mature, abandon the hole and leave.
The eating habits of hairy crabs are very diverse. They are both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. They like to eat animal foods such as fish, shrimp, snails, worms, earthworms, insects and their larvae, and also eat injured or newly molted animals. Crabs with eggs feed on eggs when they are hungry. In the natural environment, hairy crabs are mostly aquatic plants, so plants are mainly herbivores.
