Fugu (puffer fish) can be found all over Japan, but the most famous place of origin is Shimonoseki in Yamaguchi Prefecture, formerly known as Makiguchi. Shimonoseki City is located in the Kanmon Strait, the westernmost part of Japan's main continent, and is rich in fish resources, producing puffer fish, and the tiger puffer fish is one of the local specialties, and the Japanese puffer fish cuisine originated in Shimonoseki.
