Suzhou, referred to as Gusu and Pingjiang for short, is a prefecture-level city and megacity under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province. It is an important city in Shanghai metropolitan area and Suzhou-Wuxi-Changzhou metropolitan area. It is one of the important central cities in the Yangtze River Delta, a national high-tech industrial base and a scenic tourist city approved by the State Council. It is located in the east of China, in the middle of the Yangtze River Delta, in the southeast of Jiangsu Province, bordering Shanghai in the east, Zhejiang in the south, Taihu Lake in the west and the Yangtze River in the north.

Suzhou is one of the first batch of 24 national historical and cultural cities, a famous water town in the south of the Yangtze River and a paradise on earth. Suzhou city was founded in 5 14 BC, with a history of more than 2500 years. In 589 AD, Emperor Wendi of Sui Dynasty changed the name of Wu Jun in Gusu Mountain to Suzhou, and gusu district in Suzhou was the first national historical and cultural city protection zone.
