Produced in China in Liaoning (Qianshan), Beijing, Hebei (Shahe), Shanxi, Henan, Shaanxi, Gansu, Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou, Hubei, Jiangxi, Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, born in hills, ditch sides or stony places at an altitude of about 400-1200 meters. It is distributed in Japan.

The whole herb is used medicinally to clear away heat and detoxify toxins, relieve itching, astringent, consolidate essence, moisten the lungs, and stop coughing ("Flora of the Qinling Mountains").
