Method and time of seedling raising of scallion in North China

The planting time of northern green onions is in October every year, and most farmers sow in autumn. Planting method of Chinese onion: sowing and seedling raising, transplanting and planting, and water and fertilizer management.

1. Seeding and seedling raising

Before sowing, the plot should be leveled, then the border should be leveled, and water should be filled into it. After the water is infiltrated, the seeds should be mixed with sand and evenly spread twice in the border to ensure uniform spreading. This method of watering before sowing can ensure water supply, orderly emergence and high seedling rate.

2. Transplanting and planting

It is advisable to choose a plot with high terrain, good drainage and fertile soil to plant green onions. When planting, apply foot fertilizer and compound fertilizer, then plow and sun the soil to improve soil fertility, plant green onion seedlings in ditches at a certain distance, step on the soil after planting, and water them once according to the water demand of green onions.

3. Water and fertilizer management

In the growth process of scallion, it is necessary to keep topdressing and watering. Nitrogen fertilizer is applied in the early stage, and the quality of scallion can be significantly improved in the growth stage of scallion, mainly by applying decomposed organic fertilizer, urea and potassium sulfate compound fertilizer, and spraying potassium dihydrogen phosphate on the leaves after dew, which can significantly improve the quality of scallion.

Growth habit of scallion

1. Temperature: The most suitable temperature range for the growth of scallion is 13-25℃.

2. Moisture: Although Allium fistulosum is drought-resistant and waterlogged-resistant, its root system is short and its water absorption capacity is poor, so it should be irrigated and drained in time in each growth period.

3. Illumination: Allium fistulosum is a crop that does not tolerate shade and does not like strong light, and requires moderate light intensity. After normal vernalization, light intensity and light duration can grow and bloom normally.

4. Soil: Onion has strong adaptability to soil and is suitable for planting in soil with pH value of 6.9-7.6.
