Asparagus is grown all over the world. Generally, asparagus is produced in Europe and Asia. Common origins include the United States, Japan, Germany, Spain, Peru and France, with Peruvian asparagus being the most famous.

Peruvian asparagus is usually planted in the spring months of April and May. Peru produces the second largest amount of asparagus in the world. The asparagus stalks have a relatively low water content and are very flavorful. It usually costs around 20 yuan a pound.

German asparagus is usually planted in the spring and fall of each year. German-produced asparagus has high nutritional value, tender texture and good palatability. It is usually priced at around $16 a pound.
