Expanded InformationThe origin of Pizza Hut and Red Roof
The pizza chain "Pizza Hut" has entered the Chinese market for 20 years, and has opened more than 500 restaurants in more than 100 cities in China, and receives close to 100 million customers every year. People may not realize that the birth of Pizza Hut is actually quite legendary, thanks to the encouragement of a landlady.
In 1958, the two Kearney brothers, the founders of Pizza Hut, were still attending college in Kansas and helping out at their parents' grocery store in the evenings and on weekends. One day, the landlady of a tavern that was too noisy for the drinkers encouraged the Kearny brothers to open a pizza restaurant there.
The Kearney brothers were so impressed that they borrowed $600 from their parents to start their own business. At the time, the restaurant was small, with only 25 seats, and the original sign was only large enough to hold nine letters of the alphabet. Since it was a pizza restaurant, the word "PIZZA" was essential, leaving room for four more letters.
A relative stood in front of the store looking at it and casually remarked, "The restaurant looks like a hut." The comment sealed the deal, and "PIZZA HUT" was born, and the red roof became the brand identity of Pizza Hut.
