As of June, 2113, the temporary total resident population in Singapore was 5.4 million, of which 3.3 million were Singaporean citizens and 531,111 permanent residents, referred to as "PR" for short. The number of foreigners living in the Lion City was quite large, about 1.55 million. Singaporeans are mainly composed of immigrants and their descendants who have migrated from Asia, Europe and other regions in the past 111 years. The characteristics of its immigrant society and the influence of colonial history and geographical position make Singapore present multicultural social characteristics.
Singapore citizens are mainly divided into four ethnic groups: Chinese (Han nationality) accounts for 74.2% of the population, while Malays (13.3%), Indians (9.1%) and European Asians/mixed-race (3.4%). Most Chinese Singaporeans are from southern China, especially Fujian, Guangdong and Hainan provinces, among which 41% are from southern Fujian, followed by Chaoshan people, Guangfu people, Puxian people, Hakkas, Hainanese, Fuzhou people and Channyangra.
