It started when I saw old photos of memories shared by two of my favorite men's fashionistas on Instagram.
? One is Bruce Pask (fashion director of the men's division of Bergdorf Goodman, one of America's leading luxury department stores).
He shared a reminiscent photo of him and George Clooney shooting with photographer Annie Leibovitz for Vanity Fair in 2003, and joked that beards weren't gray back then
The other was Tatsuya Nakamura, who shared a photo of him at Beamer in 1989 when he was 26 years old. Another was Tatsuya Nakamura, who shared a photo of himself as a salesman at Beams F in 1989 at the age of 26, and lamented that his preferences and tastes haven't changed much since then.
After seeing this, I can't help but feel that those charming and handsome men were once young boys, and that their good taste and strong business skills were developed through day-to-day cultivation.
I'm so used to seeing them mature and elegant now that I forgot that they were young, too, and that they grew up to be wise and calm men by their own step-by-step efforts and hard work, as well as unique industry bulls and Icons.
Here's a look back at these two stylishly handsome uncles in the past, and their style is Smart Smart.
Currently the director of men's fashion at Bergdorf Goodman in the United States, recognized as one of the "best dressed men".
He specializes in a classic, casual style of dress, where simplicity, fit and quality design are the key to his style choices. Even if it's just regular colors and basic items, he looks elegant and classy with his seemingly unobtrusive matching skills.
In an interview with The Sartorialist, Bruce Pask talked about his work history:
He never thought he could work in the fashion industry, he thought it was too far away. I was a paperboy in Arizona, and during college I worked at the Gap and did an internship at a museum in Georgetown.
After moving from his home state of Arizona to New York for graduate school, he found a part-time job as a stock boy at the Paul Smith store on Fifth Avenue, and gradually discovered the career he wanted to pursue. He gave up graduate school to focus on fashion.
At the time, editors and stylists from New York magazines would come to the store to look for clothes to use in shoots, and one day someone from GQ came to prepare for a shoot and mentioned that they were looking for an assistant, and then his boss suggested that he apply for the job. After nearly a decade at GQ, he worked his way up from assistant to associate fashion director.
After working as a freelance stylist for a while, Stefano Tonchi called him to T magazine to work as a men's fashion director and stylist for eight years.
And from the magazine to the department store, first of all, because he was a loyal customer of Bergdorf Goodman and styled their magazines for many years, and knew their team well, and by chance became the fashion director of the Goodman department store.
He sees the two jobs as similar in that he works closely with the visual team to achieve the best possible look and display in the store, and wants to give customers a sense of excitement, again applying his experience and expertise in menswear.
Born in 1963 in Niigata, Japan. Mother's family was a fabric merchant and father's family was a shoemaker. Worked part-time at Beams during college and became a regular employee after graduation. He started as a salesman in Beams stores, worked as Beams F store manager and buyer, and is now the creative director of Beams menswear.
