Bumps are injuries that form on a child's body when he or she is bumped. Depending on the force of the bump and the part of the body that was bumped, the patient will have different symptoms, but at a minimum, small superficial blood vessels in the skin rupture, causing purplish-red bruises to appear on the skin, which are painful to the touch for a day or two. If there is no more serious injury, these bruises will be gradually absorbed, and the color of the skin in the affected area will gradually lighten to brown, and finally to light green or yellow, and will usually not completely disappear until about two weeks after the bruise. If the force of the blow is very strong, it may cause damage to the bones and localized swelling; if the bruise is on the head or chest, the symptoms will be more serious.
