Bateman spherical mustard
They say "hot dogs are delicious only with mustard on them". Who knows this better than Cleveland's own mustard icon and food supplier Joseph Bateman? Botman's original park mustard and the name of the Botman family were synonymous with Cleveland's food tradition in the 1920s. Its story is not only about businessman, entrepreneur and humanist Joseph Botman, but also about his popular and award-winning spicy brown mixture.

Bertman provided food for various institutions, catering companies and stadiums, including Union Park, and later for Cleveland Municipal Stadium, the hometown of Cleveland Indians. Shortly after the Second World War, Bertman had the exclusive distribution rights of many products. Once, in order to serve customers, he put a lot of things in the warehouse, drove 22 trucks and had a sales team. He expanded his sales scope from Pittsburgh to Toledo, dealing in various foods. Bertman became so professional in buying food, finding and importing food that he began to spend more time as a food broker rather than a wholesaler. He travels around the world, looking for sources of crops and staple foods, and has permanent apartments in new york, Miami and Cleveland. Joseph Bertman is a friend and mentor of many famous people in Cleveland's food industry, from Hector Boirdi (also known as Chef Boyd) in his hometown to Vernon stouffer.
