Nanyaowangmiao Department Store Wholesale Street appeared after the 26th year of Guangxu reign in Qing Dynasty (1900). It is located in front of Nanyaowangmiao outside Chongwenmen, starting from Shuidaozi Nankou in the west and reaching Hongqiao in the east. At that time, it was the largest and most famous department store wholesale street in North China. There are more than 3,000 wholesale shops and vendors in this long street, dealing in more than 6,000 kinds of goods.

The rise of Nanyaowangmiao Wholesale Street was because there were many small workshops of hats, purses and socks around Nanyaowangmiao at that time. These small workshops set up stalls to sell goods in front of Nanyaowang Temple every morning. After entering the Republic of China, all kinds of handicraft workshops flocked from far and near, and the number of booths increased from a dozen to fifty or sixty. Products include cloth shoes, leg straps, steel needles, cotton thread, ropes, towels, tobacco bags, mosquito nets, soap, hair oil, glasses, glasses cases and so on. Subsequently, the wholesale department stores jointly founded by Luan, Luan Ting and their brothers opened one after another, except for the generalized Cheng department store operated by Jin Xuan and the eternal store operated by Yang Shanting. 1939, the wholesale department of Zhao Yi Store also moved from the melon seed shop outside the front door to this street. Among many shops and stalls, Zhao Yi Store has abundant funds, complete goods and prosperous business. The store employs about 200 people and directly purchases goods in Shanghai, Japan and other places. There are also employees in charge of promotion in the store, who specialize in running inner cities, outer cities, suburbs and inns. Employees who run outside often go to Qianmen, Flower Market outside Chongwenmen, Scarf Hat Hutong, Magpie Hutong and other inns to talk business with foreign businessmen.
