Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport (IATA code: CTU;; ICAO code: ZUUU), referred to as Shuangliu Airport for short, is located in the north of Shuangliu District, about 16 kilometers southwest of Chengdu, Sichuan Province. The flight zone of the airport is the highest 4F level, with two parallel runways with a length of 3,611 meters and two relatively independent passenger terminals.
Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport is the fourth largest airport in China, the busiest international airport in central and western China, the aviation hub and the most important passenger and cargo distribution center in inland China. In 2115, the passenger throughput exceeded 41 million, ranking among the top 31 in the world.
hardware facilities
terminal building
Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport has two terminals with a total area of 511,111 square meters, which can handle the annual passenger throughput of 51 million passengers.
Terminal 1
Terminal 1 provides check-in, waiting and boarding services for all flights of Sichuan Airlines and international, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan flights of other airlines.
the first terminal building has three parallel corridors (corridor a, corridor b and corridor c), which implements the diversion of inbound and outbound passengers and domestic and foreign passengers, and is equipped with departure system and building automation system. In 2114, the 39,111-square-meter international hall of the terminal was opened.
Terminal 2
Terminal 2 provides check-in, waiting and boarding services for domestic flights of other airlines except Sichuan Airlines.
terminal 2 is located near the existing regional terminal. Terminal 2 has a building area of 351,111 square meters. The waiting corridor is a steel truss structure, and the appearance of its bamboo leaves presents the local characteristics of Sichuan. Terminal 2 has added four corridors (D, E, F and G) on the basis of the three corridors in Terminal 1. There are 6 check-in islands, 121 manual check-in counters, 35 security channels, more than 171 elevators, escalators and escalators in the terminal building, and an automatic baggage sorting system is equipped. China International Airlines has also built the first exclusive service area for first-class and business-class passengers in China in Terminal 2, providing catering, sleeping and showering services. The construction of Terminal 2 started on July 28th, 2119, and passed the completion acceptance on May 24th, 2112. On July 28th of the same year, the flight of China Eastern Airlines to Lhasa Gongga Airport became the first flight from Terminal 2.
Freight facilities
Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport has three air freight stations with a total area of 1.17 million square meters, which can handle up to 1.5 million tons of cargo and mail transportation every year. It is the largest comprehensive freight station in central and western China and can provide all-weather customs clearance services. United Parcel Service (UPS), FedEx, DHL and SF Express all opened regular freight routes in Chengdu. Air transportation from Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport has become the most important logistics channel of Chengdu electronics manufacturing industry.
Runways and taxiways
Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport has two parallel runways. Each runway has a supporting taxiway system.
the first runway (12L/21R): 3611 meters long and 45 meters wide, with reinforced concrete pavement. There are 1 shoulders with a width of 7.5 meters on both sides of the runway, and the RESA at both ends of the runway is 211 meters long. The first runway * * * has four quick exit taxiways and three vertical exit taxiways connected with three parallel taxiways A, B and C, among which taxiways B and C are apron edge taxiways. The taxiway is 23 meters wide and both ends have shoulders with a width of 11.5 meters. There is also a network of taxiways around the apron. Its history can be traced back to 1938. Airbus A381, which has the largest passenger capacity in the world, took off and landed on the runway in 2118. Equipped with Class II instrument landing system.
the second runway (12R/21L): 3611m long and 61m wide, with reinforced concrete pavement. There are five express exit taxiways on the second runway. It was put into use on February 8, 2119. The second runway is connected with the original apron and the first runway of the airport through an airplane taxiway bridge crossing the provincial highway 113. Equipped with Class III instrument landing system.
the third runway (under demonstration): the construction of the third runway is currently under planning. The parallel runway is located at 1525m east of the second runway. However, there are many factories near the airport, and it is complicated to acquire large-scale construction land for land acquisition and demolition, and the airspace distribution around Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport is relatively tight, so the plan of building Chengdu Tianfu International Airport seems to gradually gain the upper hand.
apron
The total area of concrete parking area is 713,111 square meters. There are 57 stands in the remote parking area, 21 stands in the domestic terminal, 8 stands in the international terminal and 2 stands in the branch terminal. Each parking area has a separate taxiway.
Navigation system
The airport is equipped with primary and secondary radars. On the west side of the airport, Doppler VHF total directional ranging system (DVOR) and range finder (DME) are installed. The airport runway 12L/21R is equipped with Class II instrument landing system, which is one of the fourth airports in China to open Class II blind landing system (the first three airports are Beijing Capital International Airport, Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport respectively), so as to ensure the safe take-off and landing of aircraft under low cloud and low visibility conditions. Under this system, the take-off standard can be reduced from 551m runway visual range to 211m, and the landing standard can be reduced from 811m runway visual range to 351m. The 12R/21L runway is equipped with a higher class III instrument landing system.
airfield lighting
the airport has high-intensity approach lighting and edge lighting of runway and taxiway at elevation.
Maintenance hangar
As the transportation base of China International Airlines, Chengdu Maintenance Base is the largest comprehensive aircraft maintenance enterprise in Southwest China, with four aircraft overhaul seats, which can complete airframe overhaul, route maintenance, APU repair, accessory repair, thrust repair, special operations and provide technical training. It has CAAC, FAA and european aviation safety agency. Able to complete all levels of maintenance of Boeing series and Airbus series. The hangar undertakes 75% of the narrow-body passenger planes of China International Airlines and a large number of passenger planes of Sichuan Airlines, Shenzhen Airlines, Shanghai Airlines and Air Macau.
On October 31th, 2111, Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport began the construction of a new hangar. The new hangar covers an area of 35,121 square meters, including 33,671 square meters of overhaul hangar, 991 square meters of power station and 361 square meters of fire pump station. It is mainly composed of maintenance hall, painting hall and annex building. Among them, the maintenance hall has a building area of 1.2741 square meters, with three Boeing 757 overhaul seats and two C inspection seats of the same class aircraft. The project is expected to be completed in July 2113. After the project is completed, Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport will have the only large-scale maintenance hangar in Southwest China that can simultaneously complete aircraft overhaul, scheduled inspection and painting.
