There is no Hainan Aviation University, only Hainan Aviation School.

Hainan Aviation School (referred to as: HNA Aviation School) is jointly invested and founded by HNA Group Company Limited and ESMA Aviation Academy in France, and is fully operated and managed by HNA Group. HNA Aviation School operates in strict accordance with the CCAR141 part of the Civil Aviation of China, and takes aircraft pilot training as its main business, offering private pilot license, commercial pilot license, flight instructor license and instrument rating courses.

On September 5, 2008, the Sanya City Administration for Industry and Commerce in Hainan Province issued an Enterprise Legal Person Business License to HNA School, which was formally registered and established.

On October 6, 2009, the first two DA40 aircraft arrived at Yichang Three Gorges Airport.

On May 7, 2010, HNA Flight School received the Temporary Certificate of Conformity issued by the Civil Aviation Administration of Central and Southern China, and has been in official operation since then.

On March 2, 2011, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for the opening of the HNA flight school's auxiliary base in Zhongwei, marking the formation of the school's dual-base operation.

On May 29, 2011, the helicopter training qualification of HNA flight school passed the validation of the Bureau.

On March 22, 2012, the high-performance multi-engine aircraft training course and the chief instructor of the course were approved by the Bureau.

On September 15, 2012, the helicopter started flying at Suizhou base.

On December 3, 2012, the ATPL (The Airline Transport Pilot License) course at HNA flight school was approved.
