Established in 2008, the Ministry of Environmental Protection of People's Republic of China (PRC) is a ministerial department and a part of the State Council.
According to the institutional reform plan of the State Council approved by the first session of the 11th National People's Congress and the Notice of the State Council on Institutional Establishment (Guo Fa 2008 1 1), the Ministry of Environmental Protection was established.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection is still responsible for formulating and implementing environmental protection plans, policies and standards, organizing the preparation of environmental functional zoning, supervising and managing the prevention and control of environmental pollution, coordinating and solving major environmental protection problems, formulating and implementing environmental policies, supervising law enforcement, and coordinating environmental affairs across administrative regions.
1974 10, the State Council environmental protection leading group was formally established. Its main duties are: to formulate the principles, policies and regulations of environmental protection, examine and approve the national environmental protection plan, and organize, coordinate, supervise and inspect the environmental protection work of various regions and departments.
1982 In May, the 23rd meeting of the 5th the NPC Standing Committee decided to merge the State Construction Committee, the State Urban Construction Administration, the Ministry of Construction, the State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping and the the State Council Environmental Protection Leading Group Office to form the Ministry of Urban and Rural Construction and Environmental Protection, and the Environmental Protection Bureau was located in the Ministry of Environmental Protection.
1984 May (Guo Fa [1984] No.64), the State Council Environmental Protection Committee was established. Its task is to study and approve the principles and policies related to environmental protection, put forward planning requirements, and lead, organize and coordinate the national environmental protection work.
The chairman of the Committee is also the vice premier, and the office is located in the Ministry of Urban and Rural Construction and Environmental Protection (represented by the Environmental Protection Bureau).
