Where is Mount Putuo?

According to historical records, in the fourth year of Xian Tong in the Tang Dynasty (863), a Japanese monk named Hui Hua welcomed a Buddha statue of Guanyin from Wutai Mountain. On the way home, when the ship passed the Lotus Ocean in Putuo, it suddenly encountered a strong wind and waves, so it was impossible to move forward. Thinking that Guanyin did not want to cross to Japan, Hui Hua borrowed it when the ship drifted to the tidal cave in Putuo Mountain (that is, Zizhulin). It is commonly known as refusing to go to Guanyin Temple. Because Guanyin Bodhisattva has a very lofty position among the people, Putuo Mountain has become a place for people to worship Buddha. Since the Song Dynasty, there have been many large-scale constructions on Putuo Mountain to build temples. By the end of the Qing Dynasty, the island had built three major temples (namely Fusaiji, Fayu Temple and Huiji Temple), eighty-eight temples and one hundred and twenty-eight maopeng (small temples), which really became a Buddhist world. The integration of scenic spots such as Chaoyin Cave and bathing beach not only increases the sightseeing value of historical sites, but also expands the level of tourists.
