There was a rich man who hired a poor scholar to be a teacher and a cook. Once, my husband got sick and couldn't go to class for several days. The rich man was worried and came to see his husband early in the morning. Asked: "Sir, what do you always eat?" The gentleman said: "I want to eat some fish soup." Upon hearing this, the rich man said: "I don't have fish soup for a long time." He hurried away.
At noon, the member came to see the husband again: "Sir, what do you always want to eat?" The husband said: "I am very thirsty, so give me a pear from your pear tree. Come on!" The member said, "No pear." After that, he turned around and left.
In the evening, the rich man came to see the husband again: "Sir, you haven't eaten or drank for another day. If you think it's delicious, I'll ask the chef to cook it for you!" The husband said: "I'm still thirsty. "Sorry, please cook me a bowl of delicious chicken soup!" The rich man said angrily: "Oh, you say you don't understand, but you just don't understand. If you don't have fish soup in the morning and pears in the afternoon, how can you hurt the chicken at night?" After saying that, he walked away.
In the middle of the night, the chef came to see my husband. Seeing that he was very ill, he went to the kitchen and took two cold and crisp cucumbers. Unexpectedly, his illness healed after eating them.
The scholar felt that the rich man was too stingy and refused to teach here. When he left, the rich man said that he spent too much money because he was sick, so he didn’t even give him any money. The chef gave him the money he had saved. All of them were given to Mr. Xiu Cai as payment.
The next year, the scholar passed the Jinshi examination and became a county magistrate. He thought, the chef is very kind to me, I can’t let him suffer any more. So he wrote a letter to call the chef to serve him at three tables a day and nine banquets over three days. He also wanted to find a good job for him. The chef said that his mother was at home, so that was not possible. Seeing that he couldn't keep the chef, he gave him fifty taels of silver. After the chef returned home, he used the money as capital to open a restaurant, and the business was booming. The rich man's eyes turned red when he saw it, and he thought to himself: I am Mr. Xiu Cai's former employer. If I meet him, I might be able to make a fortune. So he packed up and went to Mr. Xiucai's place. The husband also entertained me warmly, but said nothing else.
After half a month, the rich man finally settled down and wanted some money to go back, but how could he ask for it? He thought of an idea and wrote a poem on the wall of the corridor:
I have come all the way to your county,
It is easy to come but difficult to go.
Remembering the righteousness of fellow villagers back then, I had to give him some money.
The gentleman saw the poem in the corridor and knew that the rich man was going back, so he also wrote a poem:
No fish soup in the morning, no pears in the afternoon,
Midnight How can you hurt a chicken?
Soaking cucumbers in water is a great kindness.
I know who is good and who is bad.
When the rich man saw his poem, he realized that his trip was in vain, so he had to go home in despair.
