When it comes to "national treasures", what comes to mind is the innocent and lovely appearance of giant pandas. As the national treasure of China, the giant panda has formed irreplaceable cultural value in the historical process of biodiversity protection. It is a symbol of China's facing the world, which is of great value beyond the species itself.
Liangshan giant panda
So far, giant pandas have lived on the earth for at least 8 million years. It is a "living fossil" and a precious "national treasure". As early as 1973, the giant panda was listed as an endangered wild animal. Until today, there are only 600 giant pandas on the earth. In China, giant pandas mainly inhabit Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu provinces. However, in the 1980s, a disaster was sweeping the panda population in Liangshan, Sichuan, and the original number of pandas was gradually reduced to 30, leaving only one.
As a famous hometown of giant pandas, Sichuan has 16 nature reserves, and the number of giant pandas accounts for 80% of the country. In Leibo County, Daliangshan, Sichuan, there is a Mamize Nature Reserve, where the trees are lush, bamboo shoots grow well, the climate is suitable, and there are abundant food and water resources all year round, which is very suitable for the survival of giant pandas and is also the southernmost population habitat of giant pandas in the world.
From 65438 to 0976, after investigation and statistics, the relevant departments confirmed that there were more than 100 giant pandas in Liangshan Nature Reserve, and 100 giant pandas lived freely in Mamize Nature Reserve, where there were other rare animals besides pandas. After discovering this surprise, experts decided to visit regularly and predicted that a general survey of giant pandas would be conducted every ten years thereafter.
Daliangshan has been inhabited by Yi people since ancient times. Leibo County is located in the center of Daliangshan, so there are more than 40 towns and villages, and the Yi people in the county's total population can reach 50%. It has a large population, rich natural resources and poor people. It is precisely because of this that in this place with high mountains and dense forests, the long-term spread of poverty has laid the groundwork for the tragic experience of Liangshan giant pandas.
The panda was killed.
After the first discovery of 100 giant pandas 10 years later, when the relevant departments came to Mamize Nature Reserve for statistical investigation again, they were shocked by the data in front of them. The original 100 giant pandas have now fallen apart, leaving only more than 30, that is, nearly two-thirds of the giant pandas have disappeared for no reason. This result has attracted the attention of relevant departments. Although the government has strengthened the protection and care for pandas, innocent pandas have not escaped the tragic fate of being killed.
1995 has been popularized again, and the result this time is even more unacceptable.
Ten years ago, Mamize had more than 30 pandas, and now there are only two left!
Since then, the relevant departments have arranged staff to patrol the mountains frequently and pay attention to the every move of the two pandas. However, one day in May of 200 1 year, the unfortunate history repeated itself. During the inspection, the staff found that one of them had lost its trace. Soon after, the exact news came from the police station that someone poisoned and killed a giant panda in the reserve!
Residents living in Daliangshan have had the habit of hunting since ancient times. The traffic here is underdeveloped and it is impossible to obtain external resources conveniently. People here make a living by hunting, farming and chopping wood. After the reform and opening up, the government issued a notice prohibiting local residents from hunting in nature reserves. However, Mamize Nature Reserve is rich in resources, and rare species are tantamount to gold in the eyes of the poor. After the announcement, people's vigilance gradually loosened, and driven by money, they started hunting again.
Zuo and Attigu are local residents. They found footprints similar to wild boar in a mountain climbing, and the primitive psychology of Orion began to bother them. They discussed how to make a small fortune by catching wild animals. So I went to the market to buy highly toxic pesticides and mutton offal, and set a trap to wait for the prey to be caught. But what shocked them was that it was not wild boar or other wild animals lying in the trap, but China's national treasure panda!
Five people came with them at that time. Killing giant pandas is illegal. They are not ignorant. However, before the strong temptation of money, a group of people soon gave in. Don't stop doing it, just take risks by making noise and looking for traces, so a group of people skinned the giant panda and sold it at a high price of 4,000 yuan, and one person won the 800 yuan. At that time, the money was not much, but it was also quite a lot, enough for poor families to support for a period of time.
Finally, the police found three of them according to the clues, and the other two fled outside. These people have also been punished by corresponding laws. Two of the principal offenders were sentenced to 14 years, and another accomplice named Huang Changxi was sentenced to 1 1 year, and was fined 3,000 yuan and 2,000 yuan respectively.
In the face of high fines, the 800 yuan from selling pandas seems insignificant. If they stopped it in time at the edge of the trigger, or stepped back and strictly followed the initial notice, and nipped the idea of killing wild animals in the bud, perhaps such a tragedy could be avoided.
The root cause behind the tragedy
Any kind of behavior comes from motivation. In the final analysis, the endangered giant panda in Liangshan is due to poverty in reality. As we all know, Leibo County in Liangshan is a national poverty-stricken county, and it is the last area in China to eliminate slavery and other systems. People here make a living by hunting, logging and agriculture. However, in agricultural production, it is basically extensive planting and extensive management, and agricultural tools are also very simple. The production method is primitive and the efficiency is extremely low. So people's lives are basically maintained at a very low level.
Because of the hardships of life, hunting has become a more direct and effective way to get enough food and clothing, but the awareness of protecting animals passed down from the previous generation is very weak. Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory is also well reflected here. For Liangshan heroes, solving the problem of food and clothing is the first priority, so whenever they are greedy for benefits, it is difficult for them to control their desire and leave ethics behind.
Huang Changxi, who stayed in prison, gave people a deeper understanding of how poor the local residents were. In an interview, he said with satisfaction that he was much happier in prison than at home. In prison, three meals a day are guaranteed, and he can eat meat regularly. However, he didn't even have enough to eat when he was at home.
Such an answer can't help but make people think deeply. The imminent danger of the panda is the tragedy of the panda, but it is also the tragedy of this group of people, because it is this sharp blade called "poverty" that killed the giant panda in Liangshan. With the help of human hands, it extends its claws into the abyss of law and destroys the beauty of the protected. For poor and backward areas, people's legal awareness and ideological awareness are not high, coupled with inconvenient transportation and little communication with the outside world. Under such an environment, driven by poverty, they will fall into a vicious circle.
The experience of Liangshan giant panda has given social reflection. In order to really put an end to the recurrence of such incidents, poverty is the root of the problem. It is not only the giant panda that suffers from poverty, but also millions of helpless people. Perhaps, it can be improved from both economic and ideological aspects, providing more opportunities for residents in these areas to get rich and improving the local education level. These are undoubtedly not measures worthy of consideration and action.
