In ancient times, there was a fierce monster called Nian. Every year1February 30th, it goes door to door, foraging for human flesh and killing creatures. On the night of the thirtieth day of the twelfth lunar month, Nian came to a village. It happened that two cowboys were fighting for a whip. Nian suddenly heard the sound of whipping in mid-air and ran away in fear.
It fled to another village and saw a bright red dress drying in front of the door. It didn't know what it was, so it turned around and ran away. Later, he came to a village, looked into the door of a family, and saw that the lights were brightly lit and dizzy, so he had to slip away again, with his tail between his legs.
As a result, people realized that Nian was afraid of noise, red and light, and thought of many ways to resist it, such as setting off firecrackers, which gradually evolved into the custom of celebrating the New Year today.
Second, the custom of the Spring Festival:
1, Dust Sweeping: The 24th day of the twelfth lunar month is called "Dust Day on the Roof" by the people. Every household should dust off the eaves, clean the doors and windows, wash the quilts and greet the New Year neatly.
2. Eat New Year's Eve: At the end of the year, people go home from all directions to reunite, cook several big dishes to worship their ancestors, and then have dinner.
3. Shounian: On New Year's Eve, people sit around the fire and stay up all night, catching up and talking about new things.
4. Hanging New Year pictures: The three stars of carp, magpie, plum branch and Fu Lushou are often used as themes to show that there are many fish (fish) every year, and the eyebrows (plum) are on the top, and the lucky stars are high.
5. Post Spring Festival couplets: write couplets on red paper and post them on the portal. The content is either blessing, lyrics or sentences. Sticking Spring Festival couplets adds some festive cultural atmosphere to the Spring Festival.
Third, the etiquette of New Year greetings.
1. Choose a suitable time to greet the New Year.
Pay attention to the neatness of clothes during the Spring Festival.
3. "Auspicious words" should be said properly.
4. Be polite when picking up things in the New Year.
Fourthly, the origin of Lantern Festival.
Yuan Shikai is not willing to be a big president, but also wants to be an emperor. Because his dream can't come true, he has been very upset. One day, his aunt said that she wanted to eat Yuanxiao. When' tis once spoken, Yuan Shikai gave her a slap in the face. Because "Yuanxiao" and "Yuan Xiao" are homophonic, Yuan Shikai gave his men an order not to say "Yuanxiao" again, but only "Tangyuan". Later, someone wrote a jingle about this matter: "Poetry goes back to the previous dynasty, and water is steaming and boiling." Hong Xian issued a ban on selling Yuanxiao along the street.
With the passage of time, there are more and more activities in the Lantern Festival, and many local festivals have added traditional folk performances such as playing dragon lanterns, playing lions, walking on stilts, rowing dry boats, dancing yangko and playing Taiping drums. This traditional festival, which has been passed down for more than two thousand years, is not only popular on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, but also celebrated every year in areas where overseas Chinese live in concentrated communities.
